Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's softball team took Seton Hall into extra innings, but the Pirates pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the tenth to upend the Hawks, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Lauren Stalica hit her first career homerun in the fifth inning to tie the game.
- Marla Freiwald had her best outing of the season, surrendering one earned run in 4.1 innings of work.
- Ava Farina was also stellar in the circle, authoring 5.1 innings, giving up two unearned runs, striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Seton Hall got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first.
- St. Joe's was held without a hit through the first four innings. The Hawks made a dent in the hit column and tied the game all on one swing as Stalica led off the fifth with a solo homer, knotting the score at 1-1.
- Grace Brown came up next and reached on an error. She moves to third on a sac bunt and then came in to score on a sac fly by Elissa Hasapis.
- SHU tied the game in the bottom of the frame and threatened for more, but Julia Shearer robbed a homer to end the inning and keep the score at 2-2.
- The game remained at that score into the tenth when Saint Joseph's scratched a run across on a sac fly. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Pirates plated two in the bottom of the frame to come away with the victory.

St. Joe's makes another trip to North Jersey on Friday, taking on Monmouth in a doubleheader. First pitch in the opener from West Long Branch, N.J. is slated for 2:00 p.m.
