MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Delaware, 15-6, at Smithson Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Delaware (12-29) scored twice in the second and once in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (26-14) got one back in the bottom of the fourth after a
Joey Pagano double led to a sacrifice fly by
Tim Dickinson.
Â
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, four hits, two errors, three walks, and a hit batter conspired to push seven runs across for the Blue Hens in the top of the fifth.
Â
• The teams traded singletons in the sixth; after Delaware scored one in the top of the frame, Pagano doubled once again and came around to score on an RBI single by
Jack Saker.
Â
• Delaware scored four more in the top of the ninth, but the Hawks collected four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Pagano drew a two-out bases-loaded walk,
Jason Janesko reached on a fielding error that brought a run home, and Dickinson then walked in a run; a wild pitch scored Pagano with the final tally of the game.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Matt Reyes earned the win, tossing four innings and allowing one run in relief for the Blue Hens.Â
Micah Wells allowed six runs, three of them unearned, on five hits while striking out three in four and a third innings to take the loss.
Â
• Kelsey had three hits on Wednesday, while Pagano and Janesko added a pair apiece. Pagano also scored three times, while Dickinson drove in a pair.
