PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon, falling at Villanova by an 8-7 score.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (29-15) got on the board first in the top of the second inning on three consecutive singles by
Richard Beggy,
Joey Pagano, and
Jason Janesko.
Â
•
Blake Primrose doubled the lead in the third with a solo home run.
Â
• A double by Pagano to start the fourth was followed by another RBI single from Janesko;
Carson Applegate would add a sacrifice fly later in the inning to increase the margin to 4-0.
Â
• Villanova (14-25) went in front with a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth before a solo home run by Collin Quintano made it 6-4 after six.
Â
•
Joey Gale then led off the seventh with a walk before a
Ryan Price single put two on with nobody out. Two batters later, a groundout by Beggy scored Gale to cut the deficit to one. The Hawks would then load the bases via a pair of walks, but the Wildcats escaped the jam without further damage.
Â
• In the top of the ninth, Primrose reached on a one-out single before a two-out double on a 10-pitch at bat by Pagano put two in scoring position for Janesko, who ripped a single back through the box and into center field to score both runners and put the Hawks on top.
Â
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Wildcats would put two on with two out in the bottom of the ninth before a Jack Roventini single scored both runners to give the hosts a walk-off win.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Pat McKenzie recorded the final out of the ninth for Villanova and was credited with the win, while
Andrew Gaines took the loss for SJU.
Â
• Pagano and Janesko had three hits apiece, with Pagano and Primrose scoring two runs apiece and Janesko driving in four.
