MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, falling to VCU, 19-5, in seven innings.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• VCU (29-22 overall, 17-10 Atlantic 10) took the lead with two in the second and then pushed it to six with two each in the third and fourth.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (33-17 overall, 23-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth.Â
Alex Venezia led off with a single,
Jason Janesko worked a walk, and
Joey Gale was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Two batters later,
Blake Primrose ripped a double off the wall in right field to score two runs;
Richard Beggy then followed with a single up the middle to plate two more and make it a 6-4 game.
Â
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Rams responded with three in the sixth and then 10 in the seventh. The Hawks got one in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly by
Tim Dickinson, but that would be all and the ten-run rule was invoked.
