WASHINGTON – Saint Joseph's senior lefthander
Cole Fehrman and sophomore catcher
Blake Primrose were named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Pitcher and Co-Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Â
Fehrman retired the first nine St. Bonaventure hitters of the game and later sent down the last 10 batters he faced as the Hawks blanked the Bonnies, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. All told, the Doylestown, Pennsylvania, product allowed two hits and struck out 13 without issuing a walk in eight shutout innings; the 13 strikeouts are the most in a game by a pitcher in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Â
Primrose recorded multiple hits in all four games last week, posting a .643 batting average and upping that number to .700 during the three-game sweep of St. Bonaventure. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's National Hitter of the Month for April got his May off to a pretty good start with three home runs – including his school-record 20th of the season – during the weekend series to go with eight runs scored and nine RBI against the Bonnies. He also set a new single-season program record for the most runs scored in a season after a four-run showing on Sunday.
Â
The duo's efforts helped lead the Hawks to clinching the Atlantic 10 regular season championship on Sunday afternoon; it is the second regular season title in program history and the second in four seasons after the Hawks claimed the crown in 2023.
Â
Saint Joseph's hosts VCU this week for a three-game series before wrapping up the regular season at Rhode Island next week.
