Brown Homers Twice as Softball Stays Alive

5/6/2026 9:18:00 PM

Box Score SAINT LOUISGrace Brown had three hits, including two home runs as the Saint Joseph's softball team extended its season with an 8-4 win against the George Washington Revolutionaries in the Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday night.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Brown also drove in five runs. It is the first time a St. Joe's player has hit two homers in a game since Meghan Sinkus drove two over the fence, also against GW, on April 7, 2023.
  • Alivia Heers also had three hits in the game.
  • Haley McMenamin recorded two hits and scored three runs.
  • Morgan Lester drove in a pair.
  • Julia Shearer tossed six strong innings to earn her sixth win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoreless into the bottom of the second, the Hawks dented the scoreboard first as Grace Brown hit her second homer in as many A-10 Tournament games, a two-run shot that put SJU on top.
  • St. Joe's broke the game open in the third. With two outs and Heers on second, Riley York walked to put two runners on. McMenamin singled to bring home Heers and make it 3-0. On the throw, York took third and McMenamin took second, where they stood when Lester lined one into left, plating both runners.
  • Closing the scoring in the frame, Brown clocked her second homer of the game to left.
  • After George Washington scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Hawks tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning as McMenamin doubled. Two batters later, Brown singled down the leftfield line to score the runner.
  • Shearer went six innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out seven.
