PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team continued its strong start to the season on Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the second half to secure a 3-1 victory over Hofstra at Sweeney Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kayla D'Ottaviano opened the scoring for Saint Joseph's at the 26:49 mark, finishing off a setup from Olivia Mancini to put the Hawks ahead 1-0.
- Hofstra found an equalizer 11 seconds into the second half.
- SJU quickly responded to retake the lead in the 51st minute. Sarah Fisher made a solo run from just inside midfield, moved past her defender and drove the ball into the back of the net to put the Hawks back on top, 2-1.
- St. Joe's sealed the victory late in the second half when Olivia Benzing buried a feed from Mancini at 85:58 to make it 3-1.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Mancini led the Hawks attack on the day, orchestrating the offense with two assists.
- Lauren Lebo put together a solid 90-minute performance between the pipes, turning aside five shots to earn the victory for SJU.
- Fisher tallied her second goal of the season to lead the front line.
