#20 Field Hockey Falls to #11 UConn

MERION STATION, Pa. – The 20th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to 11th-ranked UConn by a 4-1 score at Ellen Ryan Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UConn (2-0) grabbed the early lead through an Abby Davidson goal 1:38 into the game.  Davidson struck again nine minutes later to double the advantage.

• Milou Heuker made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors on a corner three minutes into the second quarter.

• Saint Joseph's (1-1) took some momentum into halftime as Cat Arentz sent a ball across the circle that Hannah Bianchino redirected; Monica Piccioli fired it home for her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to two at the break.

• The Hawks enjoyed much more of the ball in the second half, outshooting the Huskies 6-2 in the third quarter and earning four corners without conceding one; unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Ellie Goldstein scored for UConn in transition to restore the three-goal margin.  Neither team found the cage in the fourth quarter, setting the final score at 4-1.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The visitors held a 14-8 lead in shots, while both teams earned five penalty corners in the game.

• Avi Wagner made eight saves in the game for the Hawks, while Natalie McKenna had four stops for the Huskies.

• Bianchino's assist and Piccioli's goal marked the first collegiate points for each.
