Field Hockey Opens Conference Play with 2-1 Win at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team opened its Atlantic 10 slate with a 2-1 win over Saint Louis on a scorching Friday afternoon at the SLU Field Hockey Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (3-4 overall, 1-0 Atlantic 10) took the lead right out of the gate as Adèle Jardemar converted a penalty corner on assists from Lily DeWan and Monica Piccioli just 2:12 into the game.

• The Hawks controlled much of the second quarter but could not add to the margin until early in the third.  A little more than two minutes into the second half, DeWan assisted Cat Arentz as she flipped a ball past the keeper to double the Hawk lead.

• Saint Louis (2-5 overall, 0-1 Atlantic 10) answered just 31 seconds later as Ida Tharandt sent a long ball into the circle where RB McGowan tipped it home.

• Both teams had chances over the final 27 minutes of the contest, but neither could convert as the Hawks came away with the win.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks held an 11-3 advantage in shots on Friday and earned six corners while conceding only one.

• Abby Schalow made seven saves for the hosts, while Avianna Wagner made one for the Hawks.

• DeWan had two assists for her second multi-point game of the season.
