PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse head coach Scott Meehan has announced the addition of Jack Welcsh to the Hawks' coaching staff.
 
Welcsh joins Saint Joseph's following five seasons at the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the Wolverines' program from 2022 through 2026. During his time in Ann Arbor, Michigan captured back-to-back Big Ten Tournament championships in 2023 and 2024 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2023.
 
The Wolverines posted 10 wins in each of those championship seasons, with both seasons matching the program record for wins. In 2025, Michigan finished tied for second in Big Ten regular-season play, its best conference finish in program history.
 
A defensive midfielder, Welcsh appeared in 30 games during his Michigan career. He scored a goal in his first season with the Wolverines, appearing in six games while collecting three ground balls. As a junior in 2023, he played in a career-high 13 games, recording seven ground balls and three caused turnovers as Michigan claimed its first Big Ten Tournament championship. Welcsh was a two-time team captain in 2025 and 2026.
 
Welcsh appeared in three contests as a senior before suffering a season-ending injury. In his final season, he returned to action for two games and recorded four ground balls while being selected as a nominee for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

"He comes from a family with a strong coaching tradition and is a proven leader in his own right. He has already shown himself to be a seamless fit with our team, and we're thrilled to welcome him and his family to Hawk Hill."
 
Off the field, Welcsh was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and graduated as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. Prior to his arrival to Ann Arbor, Welcsh walked onto the football team at the University of Cincinnati as a freshman.
 
A Cleveland, Ohio native, Welcsh attended St. Ignatius High School, where he served as a team captain in both football and lacrosse as a senior. He earned First Team All-Ohio honors as a junior and was named First Team All-Midwest as a sophomore.
