DAVIDSON, N.C. - On a humid night in North Carolina, a late first half goal for the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team helped the Hawks to a 1-1 draw against the Davidson Wildcats on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite SJU having the lead in shots, it was the Wildcats who got on the board first in the 36th minute.
- With the first half waning, Kayla D'Ottaviano executed a throw-in. She received the ball back off the throw on a pass from Jayda Shehadi and lofted it towards the net. The looping ball went just past the reaching arms of the keeper and into the back of the net, knotting the score at 1-1 with 52 seconds left in the frame.
- SJU had the best opportunity of the second half as after a video review, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick. A quality strike followed, but the Davidson keeper guessed right and was able to get enough of her hand on the ball to steer it aside.
- With just over three minutes left in the second half, Lauren Lebo came up big, saving a ball off a header right on the goal line with a Wildcats player bearing down, trying for a redirect.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The goal was D'Ottaviano's second of the season, tying her with Juliette Muro and Chelsea Leal for second on the team.
- Saint Joseph's held the advantage in both shots and corners.
- Lebo finished the game with three saves.
