MERION STATION, Pa. – Two goals from Adèle Jardemar in the second half powered the Saint Joseph's field hockey team past Richmond, 3-1, at Ellen Ryan Field on a blustery Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team broke through in a back-and-forth first quarter.  The Hawks were certainly up for it early, though, outshooting the Spiders by a 6-1 margin.
 
• Saint Joseph's (4-5 overall, 2-0 Atlantic 10) broke through midway through the second as Erika Culp's initial effort was saved by UR's Amanda Cimillo; Kiki Bruning was there to shovel home the rebound for a 1-0 lead that the Hawks held into halftime.
 
• Richmond (6-3 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) drew level just 76 seconds into the third quarter as Leah Horwitz fed Abril Peroni on an outlet pass down the left wing.
 
• Jardemar answered on a corner six minutes later on assists from Lily DeWan and Monica Piccioli to restore the lead for SJU.
 
• With the clock ticking under six minutes to go in the fourth, Alison Buffington inserted a corner for Tristan Groff, who fed Jardemar for her second of the day to seal the win.
 
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks outshot the Spiders 16-6 on the day, including a 9-2 margin in the first half.  Saint Joseph's also had five penalty corners, converting on two, while the Spiders were unsuccessful on a pair of attempts.
 
• Avianna Wagner made four saves for the Hawks, while Cimillo had seven stops for Richmond.
 
• The teams split a pair of meetings last year, with the Spiders winning the regular season matchup in Richmond 2-0 before the Hawks emerged victorious in the Atlantic 10 title game by the same score on the same field three weeks later.

The Hawks are idle until October 2, when they visit Davidson.
