LOUDONVILLE, NY (04/27/02) - Junior Chris Spay tallied four goals and sophomore Mike Pagliaro and junior Alex Heidenberger added three goals apiece to lead Saint Joseph's to a 13-11 win over host Siena in the Hawks' regular season finale. The Hawks, 4-9, 4-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, had already been assured of the number four seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament starting Friday, May 3 at Marist.
Siena, 1-12, 0-6, staged a dramatic rally in the fourth quarter but it was too little too late as Saint Joseph's held on for the win on Saturday afternoon. SJU took control of the game with four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 7-3 halftime lead.
The Hawks pushed the lead to 13-8 with 10 minutes left in the game. Siena would not quit, scoring three goals in the final six minutes but the rally came up short. Siena outshot Saint Joseph's, 37-34, and collected 34 ground balls to the Hawks' 32. St. Joe's was four-of-five with the extra man while the Saints were just two-of-six.
Dan Wolpert led Siena with five goals.
