PHILADELPHIA (03/06/04) - Saint Joseph's fell behind early but bounced back to pick up their first victory of the year, by a score of 8-5, over Lehigh University on a very soggy Finnesey Field. The win moved the Hawks to 1-3 on the season, while Lehigh dropped to 0-3.
Lehigh jumped out to an early lead, when senior
Matt Mueller scored off an assist from
Keegan Wilkinson to tie the game at one midway through the first quarter. Mueller added an assist later in the period on a goal by fellow Senior
Mike Elger, which gave the Hawks a 2-1 edge. Lehigh responded with a goal of their own to tie the game at 2-2 going into the second quarter.
Sophomore
Andrew Four broke that tie when he picked up the first of his three goals with 9:39 left in the half to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.
Mike Pagliaro's goal and Four's second tally sent Saint Joe's into the half with a 5-3 advantage.
Lehigh cut the lead to one with an early goal in the third quarter but Four's third goal, and seventh in his last two games, brought the lead back to two . Junior
Alex McColough netted a goal early in the fourth quarter on a man-up opportunity to add to the Hawks lead. Lehigh scored moments later, but Saint Joseph's senior Brian Mullen scored with 1:35 left in the game to crush any hopes of a Lehigh rally and give the Hawks the 8-5 win.
St. Joe's Sophomore
Travis McDonnell had a solid game in goal making 14 saves on 19 shots to pick up his first win.
The Hawks return to action on March 10th against Rutgers University on Finnesey Field. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
