PHILADELPHIA (11/03/01) - Keyed by a wide-open style of play and six players in double figures, the Saint Joseph's University women's basketball team cruised past the New York Gazelles, 115-49, in an exhibition matchup at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Senior

Colleen McGahan led the Hawks with 20 points apiece.
Opening the game with a flurry, the Crimson and Gray raced out to a 22-2 lead less than six minutes into the contest. That fast start would snowball, as SJU coasted to the intermission with a 59-17 advantage. McGahan, who returned to action for the first time in over a year due to a stress fracture, connected for 18 of her 20 points in the first half while Moran registered 13.
In the second half the Hawks attempted to work on delivering some different looks, while also allowing allowing all of its players to see significant action. In addition to Moran (20 pts, 6 reb.) and McGahan (20 pts., 4 ast.), sophomores
Irina Krasnoshiok (19 points and 10 rebounds),
Amra Mehmedic (14 pts., 5 reb.),
Stephanie Graff (12 pts., 6 reb.) and Elizabeth "Hootie" Mohan (11 pts., 6 ast.) all finished in double figures. Seniors
Jane Meade and
Amy Snell both took turns directing the offense and combined for 14 assists.
Under the direction of new head coach Cindy Anderson the Hawks will play one more exhibition game on Sunday, November 11 at 4:00 PM against the NWBL All-Stars at the Fieldhouse. SJU opens the regular season on Friday, November 16 against Southern California at the Fieldhouse. The team also faces off against nationally-ranked Rutgers on Sunday, November 18.
