HAWKS LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO DREXEL

Philadelphia, PA - Despite a six-goal performance senior Randy McNeill, the St. Joseph's men's lacrosse team dropped their fifth game of the season in a 12-11 decision to Drexel on Saturday night at Finnesey Field. Drexel (3-2) took an early 2-0 lead, but SJU scored three of the next four goals, including two by McNeill, to stay in the game. Drexel would then score four goals in the second period to take a comfortable 8-4 advantage at the half. After the break, SJU (0-5) came out strong as McNeill scored his fourth and fifth of the game to bring the Hawks to within two with four minutes remaining in the third period. A goal by Drexel's Mark Williamson put the Dragons up 9-6, but the Hawks scored three quick goals to tie the game. However, Jason Kilpatrick found the back of the net with 14 seconds left to give the Dragons a 10-9 lead at the end of the quarter. Dennis Cantwell gave the Dragons a two goal lead again after he tallied his third of the game with 12 minutes left in regulation but the Hawks answered with back to back goal by Chris Spay and Bert Whitelock to tie the game at 11 at the 4:30 mark. Drexel then took advantage of a SJU penalty as Pat Friel notched the game-winner at the 3:50 mark. Whitelock dished out four assists for SJU while freshman Mike Pagliaro added a goal and two assists.
