HAWKS MAKE IT 11-STRAIGHT WITH 75-50 WIN OVER FORDHAM

BRONX, NY (01/13/02) - The Saint Joseph's University women's basketball team (14-2, 5-0 A-10) made it eleven wins in a row on Wednesday night with a 75-50 victory over Fordham (3-13, 1-4 A-10) at Rose Hill Gymnasium. Senior Susan Moran had her eighth double-double (29 points, 12 rebounds) to pace the Crimson and Gray and moved within 12 points of 2,000 for her career. Leading by 15 at halftime, the Hawks found their shooting touch in the second half and opened up the floor. With a solid inside-outside game that featured Colleen McGahan and Amra Mehmedic shooting from the perimeter and Susan Morn and Irina Krasnoshiok cleaning up down low, Hawks put up 45 points in the period en route to the final margin of victory. Moran's 29 points led four Hawks in double-digits. She was joined by Mehmedic with 14 points, Krasnoshiok with 13 and McGahan with 12. The latter trio combined to shoot 7 of 17 from three-point range. Similar to its last outing against St. Bonaventure, SJU stepped up the defensive pressure in the first half. The Hawks limited the Rams to just seven field goals, and only two over the last ten minutes, as SJU overcame a poor shooting half and led at intermission 30-15.Both teams shot less than 35% in the period. The Hawks eleven game streak ties for the fourth longest string in school history. Next up, the Hawks will face their stiffest challenge of the Atlantic 10 schedule when they travel to George Washington on Sunday for a noontime tilt. The game will be broadcast locally on CN-8.
