Philadelphia, PA - Quinnipiac got seven goals
from senior Alan LoGuidice as the Braves held
off St. Joseph's in men's lacrosse action
Saturday afternoon. The loss was the Hawks
first conference loss since 1999.
Senior Randy McNeill tallied five goals for the
Hawks while junior Bert Whitelock scored two
goals and four assists.
Quinnipiac jumped out to a fast start scoring 26
seconds into the game. The game was tied 2-2
with 9:51 left in the first quarter but Quinnipiac
scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead
with two minutes left in the opening stanza. The
Hawks answered with five straight goals, including two by sophomore
Chris Spay to take a 7-6 lead with 1:14 left in the first half, but
LoGuidice netted his fourth of the game with 44 seconds left to tie the
game going into intermission.
Quinnipiac (1-0, 1-0 MAAC) took a commanding 11-8 lead at the end of
the third period but Spay's third goal of the game brought the Hawks to
within two with 12 minutes left in regulation. LoGuidice then tallied three
straight to put Quinnipiac up 14-9 with 10:33 left. The Hawks took
advantage of Quinnipiac penalties as they converted on two man-up
situations to cut the lead to 14-12 with three minutes to play but
Quinnipiac's Mike Baglio netted two more to give the Braves the 16-12
victory.
Jon Raley posted six saves for SJU while T. J. Barnett turned back 14
shots for Quinnipiac.
SJU (0-2, 0-1 MAAC) returns to action on Wednesday, March 7, in a
non-conference matchup with Lafayette at 7:00 PM on Finnesey Field.
