TALLASSEE, FL(11/24/01) - Senior
Susan Moran dropped in a game-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to power Saint Joseph's past Akron, 85-52, in the semifinals of the Tallahassee Democrat Seminole Classic. The victory puts the Hawks in the tournament's title game on Sunday against the host Florida State at 4:00 p.m.
SJU raced out to a 20-4 lead less than six minutes into the game and never looked back. The one-two punch of Moran and sophomore
Amra Mehmedic kept the Zips off balance early and opened up the floor for the rest of the squad. The duo combined to tally the team's first 17 points.
"I thought that our shooters got off today," said Hawk head coach Cindy Anderson-Griffin.
Moran had 19 points at intermission, while Mehmedic netted 12. The Crimson adn Gray led at the break 43-23.
In the second half, SJU cleared the bench.All 12 Hawks that dressed played with eleven getting in the scoring column.Joining Moran and Mehmedic in double figures were sophomore
Stephanie Graff with 13 points and junior
Colleen McGahan with 11. Mehmedic finished with 14.
Early in the first half, Moran moved into the number two slot on SJU's career scoring list. She moved past Teresa Carmichael (1,671) and now has 1,689 points. Dale Hodges is the Hawks career leader with 2,077.
