SAINT JOSEPH'S GIVES SENIORS A SOGGY FAREWELL WITH 12-7 WIN OVER CANISIUS

PHILADELPHIA, PA (04/19/02) - The Saint Joseph's University men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day, defeating visiting Canisius, 12-7. The game was marred by a one hour and eighteen minute rain delay with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. At that point, SJU lead 3-0. As play resumed, the Hawks extended their lead to 6-1 by halftime. Leading scorer for Saint Joseph's was Kevin McGrann, who tallied 4 goals. Adding a pair of goals each were Chris Spay and Ed Walsh. Mark Lipscomb had the eventual game winner. The Canisius effort was led by Greg Campbell and Chris Tocin. Each of them tallied a pair of goals. Rick Neward had two assists. In goal for the Hawks, senior Nick Leopard threw down the gauntlet on the Griffins, allowing only seven goals while saving 17 shots in the contest. Between the pipes for Cansius was Seth Vatter. Vatter had five saves and let up 12 goals in the loss. Canisius outshot Saint Joseph's, 45-27. Seniors Anthony Broderick, Ed Walsh, Tim Brown , Nick Leopard, Kevin Callahan, Alan Reagan, Bart Smalley, and Brad Way played their final game on the turf of Finnesy Field.
