GRAFF AND MEHMEDIC NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

PHILADELPHIA (2/24/03) - A pair of Saint Joseph's University women's basketball standouts were recognized as Verizon Academic All-District 2 Second Team selections for the 2002-03 season. The two Hawks, juniors Stephanie Graff and Amra Mehmedic, are first time honorees. Graff, who leads the Hawks in rebounding (7.4) and blocked shots (1.5), has a 3.72 GPA in Elementary Education. The Drexel Hill, Pa. native and Archbishop Prendergast graduate has been named to the both the SJU Athletic Director's and A-10 Commissioner's Honor rolls all seven semesters. She received the the Fr. Emory Ross award for academic excellence in 2002. Mehmedic has a 3.52 GPA in Finance and Economics. The Zenica, Bosnia native (Gimnazija) ranks among the national leaders in three-point field goals made per game and has also received SJU Athletic Director's and A-10 Commissioner's Honor rolls all seven semesters. The Academic All-District 2 women's basketball first team included: American's Katryn Costenbader, Navy's Courtney Davidson, Duquesne's Beth Friday, Penn State's Kelly Mazzante and Anne Tierney of Lehigh. First team selections are placed on the Verizon Academic All-America ballot. In addition to Graff and Mehmedic, the remainder of the All-District second team featured: West Virginia's Jess Fischer, George Washington's Cathy Joens, Villanova's Trish Juhline and Loyola (Md.) College's Katie Netherton. District 2 consists of all NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The team is selected by the Dirstrict 2 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
