PHILADELPHIA, PA (4/10/02) - Senior Kyle Ojakian scored four goals to lead Providence College to a 17-9 win over Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon on Finnesey Field. Despite the four goals scored in the final quarter, the Hawks were unable to muster a comeback, falling to 2-8, 2-2 in MAAC conference play.
Defensive skills prevented either team from scoring in the first half and it wasn't until the eight-minute mark that senior
Ed Walsh was able to blast a goal into the Friar net. Providence responded minutes later with three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead.
In the second quarter,
Alex Heidenberger scored his firstof three goals after finding an opening among the black jerseys to cut the lead by one. The Friars responded, pounding a pair of goals into the Hawk cage. The Crimson and Gray remained relentless tallying three more goals to cut the Friar lead by two, giving Providence a 7-5 lead at halftime.
Jumping out in the second half, Providence went on a scoring spree tallying six goals in the third quarter and holding SJU's offense scoreless.
The Hawks' remained aggressive in the final 15 minutes as freshman
Kevin McGrann netted a pair of unassisted goals. Heidenberger and
Ryan Madairy each chipped in a goal to aid the Hawks in a comeback but it wasn't enough as the Friars matched SJU goal for goal in the fourth quarter pushing their lead to six. The game ended in a 17-9 loss for the Hawks.

Kevin Callaghan recorded a pair of goals, junior
Chris Spay notched two assists while McGrann tallied one.
Senior
Nick Leopard recorded 15 saves for SJU while John Farley turned away 12 for the Friars.
The Hawks, now 2-8, 2-2 in MAAC conference play, will face Canisius at home, Friday, April 19. It is the final home game for eight graduating seniors.
