REYNOLDS, SPAY NAMED TO ALL-MAAC TEAM

EDISON, NJ (05/02/03) - Since joining the MAAC Lacrosse League in 1997, Saint Joseph's has placed two athletes on the all-conference team each year. This spring was no different, as senior attack Chris Spay and sophomore defender Marc Reynolds were named to the MAAC all-conference team in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. Spay, a first team honoree, leads the team in scoring with 30 points on 24 goals and six assists. He has also fired a team high 97 shots and scooped up 23 groundballs. A second team all-MAAC selection last season, Spay currently ranks 7th on the all-time goals list (96) and 9th on the all-time points (108) list at Saint Joseph's. Reynolds, a second team member, makes his first appearance on the all-MAAC squad. The defenseman leads the team and is among conference leaders with 65 ground balls. Last season, he was the first Hawk rookie to receive the team's defensive MVP since 1994. Mount St. Mary's secured three major awards as Josh Warfield was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Matt Warner received Rookie of the Year honors, and Tom Gravante was named the Spalding Coach of the Year. Saint Joseph's is seeded third in the MAAC Championships, which begin Friday at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. First-seeded Mount St. Mary's takes on #4 Canisuis at 5:00 p.m. while SJU will meet #2 Providence at 7:30 p.m.
