PHILADELPHIA (07/02/03) - Pat Cullinan, the head men's lacrosse coach at West Chester University for four seasons, has been named an assistant at Saint Joseph's, head coach Paul Perdue announced today. A two-time New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year at WCU, Cullinan will handle duties of lead offensive coach, man-up coach and recruiting coordinator on Hawk Hill.
While at West Chester, Cullinan led the Golden Rams to the ECAC Division II Championship game in 1999 and 2002 and finished the 2003 season ranked ninth in the nation. He also was the director of the Golden Ram Boys Lacrosse Camp and organized both a coaches and players clinic for the Chester County Youth Lacrosse Association.
"Pat brings a tremendous track record of success and will help take our program to the next level," Perdue said. "He has great recruiting ties throughout the northeast that will expand our player base, but most importantly he knows Pennsylvania, which is the area we want to focus on."
Prior to coming to WCU as an assistant coach in 1999, Cullinan started the lacrosse program at Glen Mills High School and was the head coach for six years. Still an active player, he has competed in the Philadelphia based Central Atlantic Lacrosse League since 1980, earning all-conference honors five times.
Cullinan is a 1979 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, where he was a four-year starter and two-time captain. He has also completed all but five credits towards a masters degree in sport and athletic administration from West Chester.
Saint Joseph's finished second in the MAAC this spring and reached the conference playoffs for the fourth time in the past five seasons. The Hawks finished with a 6-9 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
