HAWKS FALL AT SIENA, 9-8, IN MAAC MEN'S LAX ACTION

LOUDONVILLE, NY (03/22/03) -- Saint Josephs' saw its unblemished MAAC record disappear in Loudonville tonight as the Hawks dropped a close 9-8 decision at Siena. Matt Walsh's goal with 29 seconds to go was the game-winner, dropping SJU to 3-6 on the season and 3-1 in conference action. Siena got on the board first with two goals in the first quarter, but the Hawks tied things up at four before the halftime intermission. SJU held a 6-5 lead going into the final stanza, but Siena scored two in the fourth for a 7-6 lead. After St. Joe's tied the score at seven, the two teams traded goals but the Saints earned the win as Dan Wolpert made a behind the back pass to Walsh for the game-winner. Sophomore Kevin McGrann and junior Ryan Madairy led SJU with two goals each and sophomore goalie Dan Morrissey stopped 20 shots in defeat. He now leads the nation in saves with 106. Junior Brian Mullan dished three assists moving up to third in the nation, according to lax.com. Saint Joseph's, now riding a two-game losing skid, looks to get back on track Saturday when it hosts Manhattan.
