A sweep in doubles and wins at the final four singles posiitons helped to power Saint Joseph's to an impressive 5-2 victory over Dartmouth at the National Tennis Center. Freshman Pat Adams was again impressive picking up his second win of the weekend at #3 singles.
The Hawks jumped on top of Dartmouth 1-0 by securing the doubles point. Freshman Phil Bayliss and senior A.J. Garabedian opened the scoring by posting an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. SJU then earned the point when seniors Antonio Aniello and Jimmy Holland registered an 8=5 victory at #1. Adams and senior Chris Spencer completed the doubles sweep with a 9-8 victory, claiming the tie-breaker 7-1.
In singles play, SJU claimed the match with easy straight set wins by Garabedian at #4 (6-3, 6-0), Aniello at #5 (6-1, 6-2) and Bayliss at #6 (6-3, 6-2). Adams picked up the Hawks final point by rallying to win a fantastic match in a super tie=breaker, 6-7 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5), 10-7.
Holland was edged in three sets at first singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Spender was bested at second singles, 7-5, 6-4.
SJU faces Manhattan, a 6-1 winner over Rutgers, on Sunday.
