Behind four second-half goals, the Saint Joseph's field hockey team downed West Chester 5-2 at Finnesey Field on Sunday.
The Hawks got on the board first in the opening half as junior Lauren Luft redirected a crossing pass from teammate Marissa Pizzi into the back of the West Chester net at 17:10.
West Chester answered shortly after as Jenna Frankenfield tipped a long slap shot by teammate Erin Arrowood by the Hawks' goalkeeper Rebecca Cunfer to tie the game 1-1 at 20:35.
With the score knotted at one, Saint Joseph's opened the game with three straight second-half goals. Katelyn O'Brien put the Hawks up 2-1 off a corner pass by Maureen Casserly at 46:14. Casserly would add the eventual game winner at 55:20 as she tipped swept in a pass from Luft. Saint Joseph's added its third goal as Luft scored 1:26 later.
Sara Conrad brought West Chester within two, 4-2, with a goal at 59:41, but O'Brien's second goal of the contest iced the game for the Hawks with just under two minutes remaining.
For the game, Saint Joseph's outshot West Chester 16-10.
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play. West Chester falls to 7-6 overall and 0-2 in A-10 games.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Drexel at 7 p.m.
