PHILADELPHIA -
The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team will tip-off the 2005-06 season on Friday evening, November 18, against Lafayette at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Game time is 8 p.m. and will follow the SJU women's basketball opener against Princeton (at 6 p.m.).
It marks the first doubleheader for the men's and women's teams since December 1, 2001.
Head coach Phil Martelli enters his 11th season on Hawk Hill having guided SJU to a 122-40 record in the past five years. That stretch also includes five consecutive postseason berths.
The Hawks return three starters - Dwayne Lee, Dave Mallon and Chet Stachitas - from last year's squad which went 24-12 and advanced to the title game of the NIT.
SJU also welcomes a talented freshman class of Jordan Fowler, Edwin Lashley, Alvin Mofunanya and Ahmad Nivins.
The game can be heard on the New Sports Talk 950 (WPEN-AM), with Phil Denne and Joe Lunardi calling the action.
