The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to Colgate 14-7 Saturday afternoon at Finnesey field.
The Hawks started out well, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter. Senior attack Kevin McGrann got SJU on the board 51 seconds in and freshman Steve Varga added the second at 2:23.
Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, Colgate would score six unanswered to take a 6-2 lead on a goal by Robert Trasolini at 11:55 of the second quarter.
Junior attack Keegan Wilkinson added a goal for the Hawks at 14:15 to help cut the deficit to 6-3 at halftime.
The Raiders opened it up in the second half, outscoring Saint Joseph's 4-2 in each of the final two quarters en route to a 14-7 victory.
Varga led the Hawks with two goals, while Wilkinson added a goal and an assist. Junior attack Brian Ponne and sophomore Alex McColough each added a goal and an assist.
For Colgate, Brendan Hurley led the Raider offense with four goals and an assist.
In net, Dan Morrissey (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was the hard-luck loser, making 15 saves in the loss. Andrew Jarolimek made 11 saves in the win for Colgate.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 1-3, while Colgate improves to 3-1.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday when they travel to city-rival Villanova for a 7 p.m. game.
