Senior Kevin McGrann broke a tie game with the lone fourth quarter goal to lift Saint Joseph's 2-8, 1-3 MAAC) to a 5-4 victory over VMI (5-6, 2-3 MAAC) in MAAC Lacrosse League action on Finnesey Field. The victory snapped a seven-game skid for the Hawks.
SJU jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Keydets 3-0 in the opening quarter. Zach Charles, Brian Ponne and Frank Abruzzini all netted tallies for the Hawks.
The Crimson and Gray made it 4-0 on a goal by Keegan Wilkinson at the 9:15 mark of the second quarter.
VMI, however, netted four unanswered goals, two each in the second and third quarters to tie the game at 4-4. Leo McInerey had two of the tallies and assisted on a third.
SJU maintained a 29-20 shot advantage. SJU's Dan Morrissey made 11 stops in the net, while VMI's Dan Frank registered 10 stops.
Saint Joseph's travels to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday.
