Men's Lax Rally Comes Up Short at Canisius, 7-4

BUFFALO, NY - Canisius jumped out to an early first quarter lead and held off a late rally to defeat Saint Joseph's 7-4 in MAAC Lacrosse League action at the Demske Sports Complex. Canisius improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, while Saint Joseph's falls to 1-7, 0-2 in the MAAC. Alex McColough had two goals and an assist to lead SJU.

Canisius jumped to an early 4-2 lead in the first quarter as McColough and Mike O'Neill tallied goals for the Hawks. The Griffs added a single goal in the second quarter and opened a 5-2 advantage at the halftime break.

An early goal in the third frame increased the Canisius lead to four goals and a man-up goal with 4:49 remaining in the third period gave the Griffs a 7-2 lead before Saint Joseph's Steve Varga stopped the Canisius barrage with a tally with 55 seconds left. McColough scored his second goal of the game just 2:36 into the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

Tom Kucharczak recorded 15 saves in the win for Canisius. Dan Morrissey made eight saves in the loss for Saint Joseph's, who out-shot the Griffs 38-21. Canisius was 1-for-7 on man-up opportunities and held Wagner scoreless in four extra-man advantages.
