Alex McColough scored four goals, but Saint Joseph's (2-9, 1-4 MAAC) was unable to slow down Mount St. Mary's (6-6, 5-0 MAAC) and dropped a MAAC Lacrosse League matchup at Alumni Field, 16-10.
SJU was unable to slow down MSM forward Matt Warner, who finished the game with eight goals. He netted a pair of first quarter goals as the Mountaineers built a 3-0 lead after one.
McColough netted two of his team-high four goals for Saint Joseph's in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 5-2, but the Mount answered with two goals to take a 7-2 lead at the half.
The Hawks outscored MSM 4-3 in the third quarter thanks to two goals by Keegan Wilkinson and single tallies by senior Kevin McGrann and McColough. SJU then cut the deficit to 11-8 with 7:53 left in the game, as Mike O'Neill and McGrann added early fourth quarter tallies.
The Mount, however rattled off four straight goals over the next 3:42 to seal the win. McColough and Andrew Four added late goals for the Crimson and Gray.
Mount goalkeeper Dan Whitehurst made eight saves, while St. Joe's keeper Dan Morrissey also had eight stops.SJU held a 39-36 advantage in shots while the Mount had a 34-28 edge in ground balls.
