The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to Rutgers 7-5 Tuesday evening at Finnesey Field.
Rutgers got on the board first in the eighth minute on a Courtney Wernick goal, but the Hawks answered back at 15:26 as junior Kerry O'Connell scored the first of her two goals on the night.
The Scarlet Knights would score the next two goals, but Saint Joseph's junior Lindsay Brown brought the Hawks within on, 3-2, as she scored with four seconds remaining in the half.
Carrying momentum into the second stanza, Saint Joseph's scored the first two goals, taking a 4-3 lead on a Lindsey-Kate McCool goal at 19:59.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, Rutgers rallied, scoring three consecutive goals to take a 6-4 lead at 17:01 on a Shirah Hamor goal.
McCool brought Saint Joseph's within one at 13:22, but that wouldn't be enough as the Scarlet Knights controlled the ball over most of the remaining time. Hamor netted her second goal of the game in the waning moments to preserve Rutgers' victory.
For the game, Rutgers out shot the Hawks 23-17 as SJU's senior goalkeeper Courtney Huff made seven saves in the loss.
Individually, McCool and O'Connell both netted two goals, while Brown accounted for the other.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-8, while Rutgers improves to 6-8
Saint Joseph's returns to action Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. when the Hawks host A-10 rival Duquesne.
