The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision in overtime to host Georgetown in the final day of the Hoya Classic.
With the score knotted at two, the Hoyas capitalized on the first scoring chance of overtime. Following a corner kick 1:24 in, Georgetown's Chrissy Skogen headed home a pass from Sara Jordan at 91:39 to earn the victory for the Hoyas.
In the first half, the Hawks got on the board first as junior forward Nancy Cook took a centering pass from Megan Schutt and beat Georgetown's Jade Higgins to put SJU up 1-0 at 5:53.
Trailing by one for much of the first half, the Hoyas regrouped and added two late first-half goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Alex Gargano tied the game at 41:40, while Skogen added the go-ahead goal at 44:00.
Even though the Hoyas carried momentum into the second half, the Hawks quickly erased it as Cook tied the game at two apiece with a goal at 51:23.
Both teams kept pressure on the other's offense, leading up to overtime.
For the game, Georgetown out shot the Hawk 18-11 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Saint Joseph's juniors Ali Wean and Kimmy Leigh both earned All-Tournament honors.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 2-4-0 overall, while Georgetown improves to 4-1-1. The Hawks finished 0-2 at the Hoya Classic, while Georgetown and American shared the title going 2-0.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday evening when they host Lehigh at 7 p.m.
