With a veteran core and a group of highly touted newcomers, the Saint Joseph's men's team flexed its muscles as it opened the 2005-06 season by dominating play at the Swarthmore Invitational. Eight Hawks reached the events finals with five claiming individual Flight championships.
It was all-Hawk finales in the top three flights with seniors getting the best of their younger counterparts. In the "A" Flight, senior Jimmy Holland defeated SJU freshman Pat Adams, 6-0, 6-4, to pick up the title. Antonio Aniello took the "B" Flight title from his classmate A.J. Garabedian by an identical 6-0, 6-4 score. Another senior, Chris Spencer dispatched SJU freshman Phil Bayliss it the "C" Flight final 6-0, 6-1.
A pair of rookies won the "D" and "E" Flights, respectively. Freshman Fred Duncan took the "E" section with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Swarthmore's J.J. England. Brent Kahl then completed the Hawk sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Garnet's Tristan Bice in teh final.
Overall SJU went 22-6 during the two day weekend event that pitted SJU gainst Division III power Swarthmore and Villanova.
