Four different Hawks netted two goals apiece, but Colgate (4-1) broke open a tight game with a big fourth quarter to defeat Saint Joseph's (0-6) on Tyler's Field. Andrew Four, Alex McColough, Steve Varga and Mike O'Neill each tallied twice for the Crimson and Gray.
Heading into the final frame deadlocked at eight, Colgate took control of the game in the fourth quarter, outscoring St. Joe's 6-1.
The Hawks jumped all over the Raiders in the opening quarter, going ahead 3-0 in the first 2:08. McColough had two goals for SJU to kick-start the offense. The Red Raiders added a goal late in the quarter to make it 3-1 after 15 minutes.
The Raiders pulled within one 1:06 into the second quarter with an unassisted strike, but the two squads traded goals after that as the Hawks went into halftime up 5-4.
O'Neill put St. Joe's ahead by two again with his second goal of the contest 2:53 into the third quarter, but it was all Raiders after that as Colgate scored four of the next six goals, setting up the exciting fourth quarter.
The Raiders outshot St. Joe's 45-20 and picked up 39 groundballs to the Hawks 25. Senior goaltender Andrew Jarolimek made three stops, two of which came in the final seven seconds of the first half, while freshman Erik Hotaling had 15 saves for the Hawks.
