PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Saint Joseph's Men's Lacrosse team notched their first win of the season as they took down Canisius Saturday afternoon. Alex McColough and Andrew Four lead the scoring for the Hawks each with three goals while Keegan Wilkinson led the team in assists with four for the day.

The Hawks jumped out to and early lead and never looked back, scoring a total of five goals in the first half that went unanswered. McColough opened up the scoring with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter with a man-up advantage. The score was quickly followed by a goal by Steve Varga off a pass from Mike O'Neill. Four netted a goal assisted by Wilkinson before the end of the first period.

The second period opened with the focus on the Hawks defense as McColough got charges with a three minute penalty for illegal equipment. Two minutes into McColough's penalty Varga was sent to the sidelines to serve a major leaving the Hawks down for the next minute. Saint Joseph's defense held Canisius as the Golden Griffins were only able to get off two shots during the penalties. The Hawks went on to strengthen their lead adding two goals before the half.

The third period opened up with another goal by McColough. Canisius killed a penalty and put one on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal from Kevin Ross. The Hawks responded with three goals of their own before Canisius was able to score again with 39 seconds remaining. McColough was able to get two more shots off before time ran out and netted his third goal of the game with 19 seconds remaining.

O'Neill opened up the last quarter with a goal bringing the Hawks lead to nine. Canisius went on to score two more goals in the fourth quarter but their comeback attempt wasn't enough as Saint Joseph's held on to win 11-4.

The Hawks out-shot the Golden Griffins 41-24 and picked up 34 groundballs compared to Canisius' 22.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday April 1st at Manhattan. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
