April 1, 2006

Box Score

RIVERDALE, NY - Steve O'Brien and Alex McColough each tallied twice, but it wasn't enough for Saint Joseph's (1-8, 1-2 MAAC) to overcome a five goal deficit, falling to Manhattan (3-5, 1-2 MAAC), 7-5, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference lacrosse action at Gaelic Park.

Manhattan, playing its home-opener, got things started quickly scoring just 36 seconds into the contest. Less than four minutes later, the Jaspers tallied again to go up 2-0.

The Hawks answered back with consecutive scores by Mike O'Neill and McColough, making things even at the end of the first quarter. Saint Joseph's continued its momentum into the second period, as Steve O'Brien converted a man-up opportunity into Saint Joe's first, and only, lead of the contest with 12:54 remaining in the second, 3-2.

A little more than a minute later, MC knotted the score at 3-3 and with a little more than five minutes left before halftime, they struck again giving the Jaspers the lead for good.

The Jaspers 4-3 lead would eventually be extended to 7-3 midway through the fourth quarter.

Saint Joe's netted two late goals, one from McColough and the other from O'Brien, with less than two minutes left in the game to no avail.
