Sophomore Steve Varga scored four times and Saint Joseph's (5-8, 4-2 MAAC) notched its fourth straight victory by defeating Wagner (0-12, 0-5 MAAC) in Metro Atlantic Lacrosse League action at College Stadium, 11-3.
Highlighted by a five-goal second quarter, the Hawks took control of the game early against the Seahawks, building a 6-0 lead at intermission. Senior Keegan Wilkinson got things rolling with SJU's first goal and added another during quarter number two. Varga also added a pair of second quarter tallies, along with Mike O'Neill and Robert Keogh.
It wasn't until 13:09 left in the third quarter that the Seashawks found the back of the net making it 6-1. Almost two minutes later Wagner scored again cutting the Hawk lead to 6-2.
Wagner would get no closer as SJU responded with five more unanswered goals, including two more by Varga. Senior Andrew Four, sophomore Sean Cullinan and junior Alex McColough added second half goals
The Crimson and Gray controloed the game as SJU outshot Wagner 40-19 and picked up 29 groundball to just 22 for the Seahawks. WC's Chris Sochacki notched 20 saves in goal, while three Hawk netminders combined to make nine stops, including five by freshman Erik Hotaling.
The Hawks travel to Marist for a pivotal MAAC game on Saturday.
