The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team was unable to hold on as Villanova scored eight of its 10 goals in the second half to clinch a 10-4 victory, Tuesday, March 13th at Villanova Stadium. The loss leaves the Hawks 0-6 for the 2007 season thus far.
The Wildcats got on the board first, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of play. The Hawks answered back with two goals of their own in the second quarter when Chris O'Neill netted an unassisted goal, followed by his older brother Mike O'Neill notching one off a pass from Zach Charles.
Saint Joseph's was held scoreless in the third quarter while `Nova added three to its lead, making the score 5-2 going into the last period. With the help of Chris O'Neill, Steve O'Brien was able to cut the goal deficit to two, but Villanova quickly answered with two unassisted goals. The Hawks were able to break through the Wildcat defense once more, with Alex McColough netting an unassisted goal to make the score 7-4 with a little over 10 minutes to play, but the Wildcats went on to score three more goals and cement the win.
The Hawks scooped up 19 groundballs and completed 16 clears for the day. Goalie Erik Hotaling saw most of the action in goal and made 12 saves in the contest. Back-up Chase Stewart also got into the game.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday, March 17th when it takes on Manhattan for the second home game of the season. Game time is set for 1:00 pm and will be the Hawks' first conference game of the 2007 season.
