The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team drops to 0-4 after losing to #1 Duke, 18-4, Tuesday, March 6th at Koskinen Stadium. Peter Slowik tallied a hat trick for SJU.
The Blue Devils held the Hawks scoreless in the first quarter, while notching three goals themselves. The second quarter opened up with SJU getting on the board at 12:16. Mike O'Neill was able t find the back of the net after receiving a pass from Alex Lopes. The goal was O'Neill's fourth of the season and Lopes' fourth assist. Duke answered back with two goals of its own. With 5:36 left in the half, Peter Slowik notched a goal to close the gap to three. O'Neill assisted on the goal for his second assist of the season. The Blue Devils were able to add one more to make it 6-2 going into halftime.
Duke came out strong the second half, with Zack Greer scoring his second and third goal of the game. Half way through the quarter, Slowik notched his second goal of the match off a pass from Steve O'Brien. The Blue Devils tallied four more goals before the close of the quarter, including two more from Greer. SJU was able to score one more goal with one second left in the quarter as Slowik completed his hat-trick with an unassisted tally, going into the break with the score at 12-4 in favor of Duke.
Slowik's goal was the last one for the Hawks as the Blue Devils went on to add six more goals to their total in the last quarter. Slowik now leads the Hawks in scoring with six goals this season.
The Hawks notched 19 shots for the day. Erik Hotaling recorded 14 saves on the day. Chase Stewart also saw action in net, making one save. SJU grabbed 27 groundballs and completed 13 clears in the match-up.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, March 10th as they head to Quinnipiac to take on the Bobcats. Game time is set for 11:00 am.
