The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team's four-game winning streak ended Wednesday night with a 12-2 loss to Lehigh at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Hawks fall to 4-7 on the season while the Mountain Hawks advance to 4-6.
Lehigh jumped out to an early lead, scoring two in the first stanza and a third goal in the beginning of the second period before SJU got on the board. Sean Cullinan scored the first goal for the Hawks off a pass from Alex McColough. Lehigh padded its lead with six more goals before Saint Joseph's scored again. This time, it was Laurent Dionot recording the tally for the Hawks with 1:39 left in the third quarter. The Mountain Hawks went on to notch three more goals in the fourth period to cement the win.
RJ Bopf recorded all 60:00 minutes in goal for the Hawks and notched 11 saves. The Hawks completed 13 clears and scooped up 19 ground balls for the day.
The game also broke another streak for the Hawks. Mike O'Neill ends a 30-game point streak started on March 19, 2005. Since that date, O'Neill had recorded at least one point in the form of a goal or an assist in every game played by the Hawks. Held without a point in tonight's contest, O'Neill's streak ends with totals of 42 goals and 23 assists for 65 points in 30 straight games.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, April 14th as they travel to Buffalo, NY to take on Canisius in their fifth conference game of the season. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
