April 7, 2007

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Saint Joseph's baseball team dropped its fifth straight game on Saturday, falling 13-0 to the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday afternoon at Hayes Stadium. The 49ers swept the series, outscoring the Hawks 26-0 over the three games.

Charlotte (26-5, 8-1 Atlantic 10) jumped on the board right away, chasing freshman starter Pat Monaghan from the game after facing just five hitters. Monaghan did not give up a hit, but walked three batters and hit another and was charged with four runs. The 49ers scored four runs in the first, two in the second, and three in the third to effectively put the game out of reach early. Charlotte added four more in the sixth to close the scoring.

Saint Joseph's (4-23, 2-7 Atlantic 10) struggled against Charlotte pitching for the entire series, but managed to belt out nine hits on Saturday. Senior Mike Gentile, junior Jeremy Jakubowski, and freshman David Valesente each had two hits on the day, while juniors Kenny Pustizzi and Tim Smith and freshman Mike Boyland each added a single for the Hawks.

Monaghan was tagged with the loss, falling to 0-4. Charlotte's Zach Rosenbaum improved to 4-0 on the year with the win.

Saint Joseph's returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 11th as the Hawks travel to Newark, NJ to take on the NJIT Highlanders.
