The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to nationally ranked Massachusetts on Friday afternoon, 4-0. The Minutewomen scored a pair of goals in each half to secure the win.
#17 Massachusetts (13-3 overall, 5-0 Atlantic 10) took the lead 14 minutes in as Mary Shea slotted one home from the top of the circle. Katelyn Orlando doubled the lead with 27 seconds to play in the first half by redirecting a long pass into the cage.
Saint Joseph's (11-6 overall, 3-2 Atlantic 10) struggled in the stanza, as the Minutewomen kept up the offensive pressure for the full 35 minutes.
The Hawks were able to get some more pressure in the second half, but UMass tallied again with just over 11 minutes remaining as Erin Parker scored her fifth goal of the season on a corner opportunity.
The defending Atlantic 10 champions closed the scoring with exactly eight minutes remaining on an unassisted goal by Jill Powers.
SJU will close out its home slate Wednesday afternoon with a game against Villanova. The match is set for 3:00 p.m. at Drexel's Buckley Field.
