Saint Joseph's freshman third baseman Monica Aguilar went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs score as she sparked the Saint Joseph's softball team to a 9-1 win over Penn in just six innings at the opening day of the Patriot Classic.
Aguilar got the Hawks on the board in the top of the first with a solo home run.
SJU upped the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Dana Bieniek collected a pair of RBI, scoring Aguilar and junior Brooke Darreff. The Hawks would add their third run of the inning on a RBI single by freshman Alaina Loguidice, scoring senior Erika Rosenwinkel.
The Hawks gave up a run in the bottom of the fourth, but ended the game with two more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn the 9-1 victory. Darreff and Rosenwinkel accounted for the two SJU RBI in the fifth, while Aguilar collected two RBI in the sixth to go along with a RBI double by junior Alyssa Neilson.
On the mound, Neilson earned the victory, allowing one run over three innings of relief, while striking out four.
Saint Joseph's, which improved to 3-2 on the year with the win, returns to action tomorrow at the Patriot Classic.
