NEWARK, Del.--The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell behind early and could never catch up dropping a 13-2 decision at Rullo Stadium to #20 Delaware on Saturday afternoon. Joey D'Avanzo and Scott Cullinan tallied the Hawk goals on the day, while Griffin Ferrigan made 10 saves in his collegiate debut.

SJU (0-1) came out of the gate slowly surrendering six goals in the first 5:02. UD's Curtis Dickson notched three of the Blue Hens' goals, while senior Erik Hotaling was knocked out of the game after the first six goals.

Ferrigan, a freshman in his first collegiate appearance, held Delaware (1-0) at bay the rest of the game, allowing just seven goals in nearly 55 minutes of play.

Junior Joey D'Avanzo struck in the 12th minute of the contest on an unassisted goal to cut the score to 6-1. Delaware added another goal before the first period was over to stretch the lead to six again.

Unfortunately for the Hawks they couldn't muster any more offense until the fourth as the Blue Hens added two goals in the second and one in the third for a 10-1 advantage.

UD struck for three more goals to start the fourth before a Scott Cullinan goal assisted by Matt Dougherty made the score 13-2 with 3:33 to go.

Saint Joseph's will return to action next week when the team travels to Lehigh for a 1:00 p.m. face-off at Ulrich Sports Complex on the Goodard Campus.
