PHILADELPHIA--The women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 14-10 match to Old Dominion on Saturday at Finnesey Field. The Hawks were paced by Jenna Martino who totaled four points.
Old Dominion (4-1) took control from the beginning running out to three-goal leads of 3-0, 4-1, and 6-3 in the first half.
Saint Joseph's (4-5) fought back to make it 6-5 midway through the first frame behind goals from Meghan McDevitt, Jen Peters, Martino and two from Dinn.
After two ODU goals stretched the lead again to three, Jessica Westlake got one back prior to the halftime lead to end the half with 39 ticks remaining.
Another Tursi tally opened the second half to bring the Hawks within one of the Monarchs, 8-7. Martino assisted on the goal.
Old Dominion went on a 6-1 run after that to give the Monarchs an insurmountable 14-8 lead. The only goal for SJU during that span came from Martino.
Tursi and Martino capped the scoring with two goals in the final 3:30 of the game as the Hawks would get no closer than 14-10.
Kaitlin LaBarbera and Suzy Herlihy split time in net for Saint Joseph's. Herlihy started and made six stops in 23:30, allowing seven goals. LaBarbera had eight saves and also let in seven goals in 36:30.
The Hawks will return to action when they begin Atlantic 10 play next week against Temple on Friday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Finnesey Field.
