PHILADELPHIA - Behind a pair of stellar pitching performances, the Saint Joseph's softball team oppened Atlantic 10 play with back-to-back 8-0 blankings at La Salle. Senior Dani Gonzales posted allowed just seven hits over 13 innings.

In Saturday's contest, the Hawks' took advantage of two La Salle errors in the top of the fourth. Saint Joseph's freshman Heather Brabazon scored on an error by the second baseman, while senior Beka Shumock's RBI ground out gave SJU a 2-0 lead. The Hawks' scored their third run as sophomore Laura Cardone scored on a throwing error as she stole third and came around to score.

Saint Joseph's got a RBI by senior Sue Lebow in the fifth, while freshman Monica Aguilar scored earlier on a error.

The Hawks' ended the game in the sixth with three runs as junior Brooke Darreff drove in a run and senior Erika Rosenwinkel hit a two-run homer to cap the SJU's offense.

On the mound, Gonzales allowed just four hits and one walks, while striking out five for the win.

In the opener on Friday, Gonzales allowed just three hits, while striking out eight in the victory.

At the plate, SJU took advantage of five La Salle RBI in tallying eight runs. Darreff accounted for two RBI, while Rosenwinkel and Lebow each recorded one apiece.

SJU returns to action tomorrow at Lehigh. The opener begins at 1 p.m.
