The combination of four RBI from seniors Sue Lebow and Erika Rosenwinkel and solid pitching performances from freshman Erin Gallagher and sophomore Lauren Pembleton, the Saint Joseph's softball team topped Drexel, 8-2, Tuesday afternoon.
The Hawks jumped out early on the Dragons, gaining a 2-0 edge in the top of the first. Sophomore Laura Cardone tallied SJU's first run on a double steal, scoring from third, while Rosenwinkel drove in freshman Monica Aguilar to put the Hawks up two.
Saint Joseph's tallied four runs in the top of the third to open a 6-0 edge, with Rosenwinkel delivering a two-run double to get the offense going. Lebow collected the remaining RBI.
A pair of runs in the top of the fourth extended Saint Joseph's lead to eight, but the Dragons answered back with a pair of runs off Pembleton in the bottom of the inning.
The Hawks' defense was solid from then on though, allowing no runs over the remaining innings to improve to 13-11 on the year.
Individually, Rosenwinkel went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while freshman Monica Aguilar went 1-for-1 with four walks, three runs and a RBI. On the mound, Gallagher was hitless over three innings while striking out two for the win, while Pembleton registered two whiffs in relief.
