The Saint Joseph's softball team defeated Rhode Island twice by identical scores, 9-1, in an Easter Sunday doubleheader played at Randazzo Park. Both games ended after five innings because of the eight-run differential.
The Hawks scored four runs in the second inning, helped by three walks and one URI error.
Monica Aguilar led the way in the first game, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Laura Cardone also went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Winning pitcher Dani Gonzales led off the third with solo homer and eventually scored another run. She gave up just four hits and struck out two Ram batters.
In the second game, SJU jumped right out at the start, scoring five runs in the first inning, helped by RBI singles from Dana Bieniek and Erika Rosenwinkel.
Aguilar again went 2-for-3 with three RBI while Dana Bieniek was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Erin Gallagher picked up the win, scattering three Ram hits and striking out three.
The Hawks improve to 17-15 and 6-4 in the A-10 while Rhode Island falls to 7-29 (1-9).
